PDF Replacement

Update your PDF files without changing existing access links. Available on Pro and Team plans.

Overview

PDF Replacement lets you update the PDF file behind a lead magnet while keeping all existing links working. This is essential for maintaining current content without disrupting your distribution.

PDF Replacement is available on Pro and Team plans.

How It Works

When you replace a PDF:

  1. Links stay the same: Every access link continues to work
  2. New content displays: Recipients see the updated PDF
  3. Analytics preserved: All previous view data remains
  4. Instant update: Changes take effect immediately

When to Use PDF Replacement

Real-World Examples

Sales team scenario: You've sent your pricing PDF to 50 prospects. Pricing changes next month. → Replace the PDF, and everyone with existing links sees new pricing.

Marketing scenario: Your "2024 Trends" report needs updated statistics. → Replace the PDF without creating new links or updating campaigns.

How to Replace a PDF

Step-by-Step

  1. Open the lead magnet you want to update
  2. Look for the Replace PDF button (usually near the preview)
  3. Click to open the upload dialog
  4. Drag and drop your new PDF, or click to browse
  5. Wait for upload to complete
  6. Confirm the replacement when prompted

Requirements

  • Same file format (PDF only)
  • Same size limit (50 MB max)
  • Any page count (can be different from original)

What Happens After Replacement

For New Viewers

  • See the new PDF immediately
  • Full tracking works as normal
  • No indication that content was replaced

For Previous Viewers

  • If they return to their link, they see the new PDF
  • Their previous viewing history shows in analytics
  • Page numbers may not match if document structure changed

Analytics

  • Preserved: All view counts, session data, user engagement
  • Continues: New views tracked as normal
  • Note: Page-level analytics may shift if pages change

Best Practices

Before Replacing

  1. Keep a backup: Save the original file locally
  2. Version naming: Use "ProductGuide_v2.pdf" naming on your computer
  3. Test the new PDF: Open it locally to verify content
  4. Check file size: Ensure it's under 50 MB

Version Control Tips

Consider adding version info to your local files:

ProductGuide_v1_Jan2024.pdf
ProductGuide_v2_Mar2024.pdf
ProductGuide_v3_Jun2024.pdf

This way you can always revert if needed.

Communication

If the changes are significant, consider:

  • Notifying recipients who already viewed
  • Updating the lead magnet name with version/date
  • Creating new links for major revisions

Limitations

What You Can't Change

  • Lead magnet type: Can't change PDF to Redirect
  • Lead magnet ID: The system ID stays the same
  • Past analytics: Can't modify historical data

When to Create New Instead

Create a new lead magnet instead of replacing when:

  • Content is completely different (not an update)
  • You want separate analytics for each version
  • You need to keep the old version available
  • Major structural changes warrant fresh tracking

Without PDF Replacement (Free/Starter)

On Free and Starter plans, to update content you would need to:

  1. Create a new lead magnet with the updated PDF
  2. Create new access links
  3. Share the new links
  4. Optionally deactivate the old lead magnet

This is why PDF Replacement is valuable for active content distribution.

Troubleshooting

Replacement Not Working

  • Ensure you're on Pro or Team plan
  • Check file is under 50 MB
  • Verify it's a valid PDF file
  • Try a different browser if upload fails

Old Content Still Showing

  • Clear your browser cache
  • Wait a few minutes for CDN propagation
  • Ask recipient to refresh their page

Need to Revert

If you need to go back to a previous version:

  1. Find your local backup file
  2. Use PDF Replacement again with the old file
  3. Content reverts immediately
