Custom Domains

Overview

Custom domains let you serve lead magnets from your own domain, like resources.yourcompany.com. This provides complete brand control and builds trust with recipients.

Why Use a Custom Domain?

Professional Appearance

Instead of: share.vavolta.com/g/your-guide

Use: resources.yourcompany.com/g/your-guide

Trust

Recipients see your domain:

• Recognizable to them
• Matches your other properties
• No third-party branding

Email Deliverability

Links from your domain:

• Less likely to be flagged as spam
• Match your sending domain
• Higher click-through rates

Prerequisites

Before setting up:

• Pro or Team plan subscription
• Access to your domain's DNS settings
• A subdomain to use (e.g., resources, content, docs)

Setting Up Custom Domain

Step 1: Choose Your Subdomain

Decide which subdomain to use:

Step 2: Add Domain in Vavolta

1. Go to Settings > Branding > Custom Domain
2. Click Add Custom Domain
3. Enter your subdomain (e.g., resources.yourcompany.com)
4. Click Continue

You'll receive DNS configuration details.

Step 3: Configure DNS

Add a CNAME record with your domain provider:

How to add in common providers:

• Cloudflare: DNS > Add Record > CNAME
• GoDaddy: DNS Management > Add > CNAME
• Namecheap: Domain List > Manage > Advanced DNS > Add
• Google Domains: DNS > Custom Records > CNAME

Step 4: Verify Domain

1. Return to Vavolta
2. Click Verify Domain
3. We check for the DNS record
4. May take up to 48 hours (usually minutes)

Step 5: SSL Certificate

After verification:

1. SSL is automatically provisioned
2. Takes 5-15 minutes
3. Your domain works with HTTPS

DNS Propagation

DNS changes take time to spread:

Check Propagation

Use tools to check DNS status:

• whatsmydns.net
• Enter your subdomain
• Look for CNAME pointing to Vavolta

URL Structure

After setup, your URLs work like this:

Generic Links

• Before: share.vavolta.com/g/guide-name
• After: resources.yourcompany.com/g/guide-name

Access Links

• Before: share.vavolta.com/a/abc123
• After: resources.yourcompany.com/a/abc123

Existing Links

• Old Vavolta links continue working
• Both domains function simultaneously
• Gradual migration is fine

Managing Your Domain

Viewing Status

In Settings > Branding > Custom Domain:

• Verified: Domain is working
• Pending: Waiting for DNS verification
• Error: Issue with configuration

Changing Domains

To switch to a different domain:

1. Add new domain
2. Configure DNS
3. Verify new domain
4. Remove old domain (optional)

Removing Domain

To stop using custom domain:

1. Go to Settings > Custom Domain
2. Click Remove
3. Confirm removal
4. Links revert to Vavolta domain

Troubleshooting

Domain Won't Verify

Check DNS record:

• Correct record type (CNAME)
• Correct subdomain (just resources, not resources.yourcompany.com)
• Correct target (custom.vavolta.com)
• No conflicting records

Wait longer:

• DNS can take up to 48 hours
• Try again in a few hours

SSL Certificate Issues

If HTTPS isn't working:

• Wait 15-30 minutes after verification
• Check domain is still verified
• Contact support if persists

Links Not Working

If custom domain links fail:

• Verify domain status is "Verified"
• Check SSL certificate is active
• Confirm DNS is still configured
• Test in incognito/private browsing

Mixed Content

If some resources load over HTTP:

• Usually self-resolves
• Clear browser cache
• Contact support if persists

Multiple Domains

One Domain Per Workspace

Currently:

• Each workspace has one custom domain
• All lead magnets use that domain

Multiple Workspaces

For multiple brands:

• Create separate workspaces
• Each can have its own domain
• Manage as needed

Best Practices

Choose Wisely

Pick a subdomain you'll keep:

• Changing domains breaks links
• Choose something professional
• Avoid trendy terms

Document Your Setup

Keep record of:

• Domain provider login
• DNS configuration
• Verification date

Monitor Expiration

Ensure your domain:

• Doesn't expire
• DNS stays configured
• SSL stays valid (automatic)

DNS Provider Guides

Cloudflare

1. Log into Cloudflare dashboard
2. Select your domain
3. Go to DNS tab
4. Click "Add record"
5. Type: CNAME
6. Name: your subdomain
7. Target: custom.vavolta.com
8. Proxy status: DNS only (gray cloud)
9. Save

GoDaddy

1. Log into GoDaddy
2. My Products > Domains > DNS
3. Add > CNAME
4. Host: your subdomain
5. Points to: custom.vavolta.com
6. TTL: Default
7. Save

Google Domains

1. Log into Google Domains
2. Select domain > DNS
3. Custom records > Manage
4. Create new: CNAME
5. Host name: your subdomain
6. Data: custom.vavolta.com
7. Save
